Protection measures against the threat of the new coronavirus Covid-19 are extended in the province of Holguín to more than 300 foreigners who are studying at the Mariana Grajales University of Medical Sciences in this eastern Cuban city.

Sonia García, head of the department of international relations of the university, indicated that the strategy includes the training of fellows about the disease, with an emphasis on particularities such as the ways of transmission and the main actions of personal protection.

García explained that plans have been drawn up to keep the students inside the residence, a guarantee to observe their health status daily and facilitate timely care, in case of any symptoms of the virus.

She added that there are indications for those who, among the students themselves who present nasal congestion or other characteristics of respiratory conditions, immediately report it to the existing medical office within the university facilities.

Goitseone Tankee, a fellow from the Republic of Botswana, highlighted the facilities provided by the Cuban health system in the face of the epidemiological situation and expressed feeling safe for the support of her teachers, colleagues and training programs.

Holguín University of Medical Sciences welcomes students from 41 nations on five continents, including Bolivia, Angola and South Africa.
