Holguin involved in the production of masks to prevent COVID-19

The Base Business Unit (UEB) Confecciones Yamarex of Holguin, along with other units of the Light Industry Business Group, are involved in the production of about one million masks destined to healthcare centers, airports, ports and marinas, in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus COVID-19.
According to Mercy Ochoa Hijuelos, director of the UEB, the four factories in the eastern territory, located in Antilla, Banes, Velasco and the main municipality, extended the working day to accomplish this task within a period of five to six days.
"Once the task was indicated we began to work on the cutting units and now we are involved in the manufacturing of the masks," she said.
In accordance with the requirements of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, the masks are made of cotton fabric, have three layers and two folds, which allow the mouth and nose to be properly covered.
Ochoa Hijuelos expressed the willingness to fulfill future orders, as well as to offer technical training in different areas, so that the population also knows how to prepare this means of protection.
The coronavirus COVID-19 currently affects 105 countries including China, where the virus was first detected, which has caused 3,809 deaths, according to data published on Monday. In Cuba, the necessary measures are taken for the spread and control of the virus.
