The province of Holguin plans to open this year seven of the eight People’s Campgrounds under construction here, which accommodation capacity will increase to 1,674 with these new investments.
The first construction stage includes the facilities located in Antillita and Barrancones, municipality of Antilla; Los Bajos and Caletones, in Gibara; Morales beach, in Banes, as well as Carenerito, "Frank País" and Cayo Guam, in Moa, informed Alfredo Enrique Alonso Varona, general director of the Provincial Company of Popular Camping.

For 2021 is planned the construction of another nature resort in Puerto Rico Libre, in Banes, which will complete the investments included in the program of extension of the People’s Campgrounds in Holguin, which is among those territories with less accommodation capacity in the country.
He pointed out that the facilities will be located in beach areas and will have tents with capacity for four to six people, which will allow accommodating about 220 vacationers in each rotation. "In addition, the investment includes a main building, restaurant, rustic playground, barbecue areas and extra-hotel activity."

Alonso Varona explained that the new facilities will also constitute a source of employment in those places, whose workers -47 for each base- are currently receiving training courses in Formatur's school.
Coupled with investments, the conditions are created for the opening of Marketing Points for reservations in the municipalities of Moa, Frank País, Antilla, Banes, Gibara and Holguin.
Currently, there are People’s Campgrounds located in Playa Blanca, Silla de Gibara, Rio Cabonico, Casa del Vaquero and Villa Cromita, with more than 130 rooms distributed with about 540 capacities.
The Campismo Popular (People’s Campground) was created in the province of Pinar del Rio at the request of Fidel Castro, as a healthy and safe option for recreation and being in contact with nature.
