Innovation projects contribute to economy in Holguín

Of the 116 Research, Development and Innovation (R + D + I) projects carried out in Holguín in 2019, several are directly related to food production and services, as a fundamental task in the economic and social development of this eastern province.
 
Among the most outstanding projects are those related to non-sugar agribusiness and food industry, with the assessment of the production of six varieties of chickpea according to soil characteristics and climatic conditions of the territory; as well as the analysis of 30 common bean lines in order to convert them into commercial varieties.
 
It also stands out the assembly of 10 self-propelled transporters for rice cultivation of Cuban design, aimed at increasing production capacity.
 
The equipment was hitched at the 26 de Julio agricultural implements factory in Holguín, based on a prototype created by Cuban specialists with the cooperation of a company from the People's Republic of China.
 
A methodology for decision-making in the depletion of final honey and the maximization of sugar quality in the López Peña sugar mill, in the municipality of Báguanos were among the projects carried out by the sugar industry, while the Asertec Workshops of Holguín manufactured leading wagon trains, which were supplied to several entities of the country.
 
The Tourism sector made proposals for new or improved tourism products to diversify and differentiate the offers of this destination, one of the main ones in the country, where 12 lines of work of the science and innovation activity are promoted and controlled in a prioritized way.
 
On the other hand, the improvement of surgical techniques in Optometry and Optics had great impact on the activity of the professional services, as well as subspecialties such as refractive surgery, cornea, oculoplasty, retina, low vision and neurophthalmology of the Holguín Ophthalmological Center, with coverage for several provinces in eastern Cuba.
