The livestock sector in the province of Holguín contributed about 24 million liters of milk to the industry, 1.6 million above what was foreseen in the 2019 plan, which contributed significantly to the import substitution of powdered milk, one of the most important items for the production of different foods.

The Tomás Machado Credit and Services Cooperative of Mayarí is the first entity in the territory that produced one million liters of milk, while the municipalities with the best results are Cacocum, Báguanos and Banes.

These results were possible after the implementation of most efficient actions in contracting, the differentiated attention to large producers, the improvement of work in the collection areas, the genetic improvement of the breeds and the planting of protein plants to include in the diet of the animals, among other important actions.

By 2020, it is expected an increase in the delivery to the industry, since the work is strengthened with the 48 thousand cattle owners of the province and the accounting of the cattle (count) by the Department of Genetics and Livestock Registry, of the Provincial Delegation of Agriculture.
