The provinces of Holguín and Cienfuegos received a recognition diploma for achieving the best results in the indicators of care programs for people with disabilities in the country during the years 2018 and 2019.

The recognition to both territories was made at the end of the Second National Scientific Conference on Disability and the Meeting of Cochlear Implant and Auditory Disability, which from December 2 to 4 took place at the Expo-Holguín Fairgrounds, with the participation of about 200 delegates.

In Cuba there are more than 449 thousand people with some type of hearing, visual, physical-motor or mental disability, of which about 19,500 reside in the province of Holguín, where experts gave more than 20 keynote lectures, during the working sessions of these events, which reaffirmed the will of the Cuban State and the Public Health system to raise the quality of life and full insertion of these people into society.

The final day of the event was dedicated to the Cuban Program of Cochlear Implants on the 23rd anniversary of the first of those procedures performed in the country, which today adds 505 and of them 37 to deafblind people.

The event served to recognize professionals from the sector with an outstanding work for the benefit of the quality of life of people with disabilities and their insertion into society during the last 20 years.
