The Cristino Naranjo and Urbano Noris industries are involved in a steady way in the sugar harvest. Although they started milling with delays of 48 and 72 hours, respectively, they remain involved in intense working days to recover the lost time and guarantee their contribution to the province of Holguín, where it is intended to mill 349 thousand 313 tons of cane in this small harvest that extends until December.
On the current harvest season, the director of the Holguín Sugar Company, Reina Salermo Escalona commented: “Initially there were problems with the pipe of residuals and operations with new personnel in the 'Cristino' sugar mill, but since some days ago it has been operating in a stable way and has been able to mill over 60 percent of its potential norm.
“Also, the ´Urbano Noris had problems with the boiler fan; however, it recovers and must produce what is expected per day in order to discount the accumulated delay. We also want to incorporate "López-Peña" earlier than planned (December 22) to fulfill the plan of the small harvest.
“Workers involved in the harvest make the maximum effort so that the two sugar mills advance in December. The cane is guaranteed and we have in the south the support of the machinery of the north, which will favor the advance in cutting and grinding,” she added.
On the planting of cane, Salermo Escalona commented: “The fuel deficit did not allow us to prepare the land on time and in agriculture the actions have their opportune moment, not doing them brings negative implications later. We already have delays, but we plan to achieve at least 70 percent of the 14 thousand hectares planned.

"Now we are planting the areas under irrigation, as planned for December, mainly in southern areas and we will plant in January – April period about 2,700 hectares, which will guarantee part of the raw material for the 2021 harvest", she concluded.
