Canadian Airline Starts High Tourist Season in Holguín

The arrival this Monday of the first flight of the Canadian airline WestJet to the Frank País international airport of Holguín marked the beginning of the high tourist season in this important destination of eastern Cuba.
With more than 170 passengers on board the fight from Toronto arrived to the terminal around 2:00 in the afternoon, as invariably since November 2009, when it began operations in this area.
Since then, this Canadian tour operator maintains two weekly flights, Monday and Saturday - from November to April, a period in which the greatest number of visits is reported.

Jorge Luis González, representative of the WestJet in the province, explained that this airline, considered the largest and most popular in Canada, maintains regular traffic to Cuba and mainly to Holguín, where it transports many repeating visitors that talk about hospitality and good service received at the hotel facilities of this tourist destination.
On the other hand, Yusandra Sánchez, commercial deputy director of Viajes Cubanacán, said that the WestJet, together with the Russian tour operator Pegas Touristik, which operates in direct flight to Holguín since December 25, 2017, achieved the largest operations with this agency at the Holguin tourist destination every year.
At the moment the Holguín terminal welcomes between 40 and 45 weekly flights, but in the high tourist season the figure increases around 70, mostly from Canada, Germany, Russia and the United States.
Those of the American Airlines (AA) and JetBlue has been banned by the Trump administration, so they will not be able to flight to Holguín as of December, after three years of establishing regular trips between both destinations.
