After a pause of 11 years, the fifteenth edition of the National Archeology Day will be held in Holguín from October 25 to 27, under the auspices of the National Union of Historians of Cuba (Unhic) and its provincial subsidiary.
According to Yadira Rojas, a member of the organizing committee, the event is taken up before the need to evaluate the current state of the archaeological debate in Cuba and provide the island specialists a space to socialize their researches.
Delegates from Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Isla de la Juventud, Havana and Holguín will meet in Banes, main headquarters of the event.
Debates will focus on the pre-colonial archeology involving rock art, the history of Cuban archeology and space management studies, in addition to the historical archeology, which includes topics such as the creation and development of urban, industrial and rural environments in the Caribbean, as well as the indigenous legacy.
Organizers also organized the commission Public Archeology to analyze different educational and community experiences and the management of cultural resources.
"The latter is very important, because it will address the issue of the transformation of archaeological heritage into tourist attraction, which generates a positive impact on local development," said Rojas and noted that, in that sense, the provinces of Holguín and Matanzas have very interesting experiences.
The program also includes the inauguration of the exhibition "From the past to the present in the Buchillones", book presentations and visits to museums and archeological sites.
The meeting will conclude with the panel "Mutual meeting between the cultures of the old and the new world.”
The National Archeology Day, formerly known as the Aboriginal Culture Day, was first held in Cuba in 1974.
