Holguín Prepares Sales Network in Convertible Currencies

Photo: TorralbasSince the announcement of the Cuban government to authorize the purchase of appliances, parts and pieces of cars and other merchandise in convertible currencies, in the province of Holguín conditions have been created in a network of units, where natural persons can operate with magnetic cards.
Executives of the Caribe, Cimex and Sasa stores told to the local newspaper ¡ahora! that their incorporation to the sales network is planned for a second stage of this gradual process, as explained by the Cuban ministers who participated in the Round Table TV program this week.
In the city of Holguín, the Colibrí unit of the Tiendas Caribe network, located on Libertad Street, on the corner of Cuba Street; The shopping center operated by Cimex La Central, located on the Central Highway and the shop belonging to Transporte Automotor, in Pepe Torres No.10, operated by Sasa, will be available to provide the service.
About 77 stores will be prepared in the country, which will only operate with magnetic cards, based on the possibility offered to permanent residents to open accounts in US dollars, associated with magnetic cards, at the offices of the Metropolitano SA banks, of Credit and Commerce and the Popular Saving Bank.
Irma Margarita Martínez Castrillón, president minister of the Central Bank of Cuba explained in the TV program that “the accounts will be enabled at the request of natural persons who do not exercise the commercial activity, only with the presentation of their identity card and the delivery will be within three to seven days (in Havana and provincial capitals) and up to 10 days for the rest of the country.”
For her part, Iset Maritza Vázquez Brizuela, first vice president of Cimex, explained that “the creation of these establishments seeks to make it easier for natural persons, who have freely convertible currency, to purchase products that are currently not marketed in existing stores in Cuba”.
In a first stage it is expected to be among the main equipment for sale: split, freezer, large format televisions, high-end capacity refrigerators; automatic washing machines, ovens, sandwich makers and microwaves, while electric motorcycles, batteries, tires and accessories, motorcycle units and combustion engines will be offered in the automotive branch.
