The Territorial Integral Development (PADIT) project has allowed Holguin to achieve concrete results in ongoing projects that respond to the local development agenda and contribute to the strengthening of economic circuits.

PADIT is a program led by the Ministries of Economy of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment and the Institute of Physical Planning and also has the support of the United Nations Development Program.

This body also has the support of several international partners, including the Swiss Development Agencies and the Italian Cooperation Agency; the embassies of Italy and Canada and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

PADIT is currently one of the main tools of the Cuban government aimed at developing local capacities in the Cuban provinces, including Holguin with the municipalities of Urbano Noris, Gibara and the head city.

In the city of Holguin, PADIT has benefited the Plaza de la Marqueta Cultural Center, which involves various artistic and educational institutions, while the self-employed sector is linked to the cultural dynamics of the province, explained Dr. Eduardo Avila, technical coordinator of PADIT in Holguin.

There are also other projects aimed at developing capacities for food production, such as the installation of small ice cream and sweet biscuit processing factories in the community of Piedra Blanca. “The last one was prepared with the equipment purchased through the collaboration, but it was completed with support of the Food Production and Distribution Company (NUMA) and the Government of the territory. This is a local-scale financing experience, in which various grant sources have been approved. ”

Likewise, two mini-industries were built in the municipality of “Urbano Noris” for the elaboration of fine sweets and sausages and other meat products, for the daily processing of about two tons of meat, whose production will be destined to the local consumption.

PADIT started in 2014 with the signing of the program with the governments of Pinar del Rio, Artemisa, Cienfuegos and Holguin; but in 2018, another six provinces were incorporated to the second phase, active until 2021.
