The fourth generation data network (4G) will begin operating in a test phase at 18 points in Holguin, Granma newspaper reports today.

Yovagnis Perez, head of the Mobile Telephony Department of the Cuban Telecommunication Company S.A. (Etecsa) in the eastern province, said that they have been preparing for two months for the test.

He announced that it is also planned to install another 38 fourth generation stations in the other municipalities of Holguin, with the aim of extending this service.

Among the works prior to the test, he mentioned the determination of the largest consumers of data (above 2.5 megabytes per month), as well as the areas of greatest connection and their coincidence with the stations to be installed.

To benefit from this data service it is necessary the existence of technical requirements, such as the availability of a terminal with 4g in the frequency of 1800 Megahertz and mobile card usim, more advanced than the sim, because it saves the appropriate settings for the technological step to take.

It has also been identified a group of users who, without owning the usim card, can be incorporated into the test provided if they agree.

The intention, Yovagnis Perez explained, is to establish contact with these clients to give them the opportunity to make the card change in a prioritized way.

The 4g technology will allow the decongestion of the current mobile phone networks and will improve in terms of navigation, calls and messages.
