The productive results of the main agricultural area of Mayari must be in correspondence with the large hydraulic investments, the installed productive capacities and the training of the human capital carried out in this Holguin municipality, where conditions have been created to turn it into the greatest productive area in Cuba, for the quality of its lands and comprehensive development programs underway there.
Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, toured several areas of this eastern territory, where he called to use well the land and leave aside the excuses, because organizational problems, of planning, control and exploitation are denoted, all feasible of solution with the joint effort of workers.

“It is true that some resources are missing, but the fundamentals are there, such as irrigation systems and tractors. There are agricultural labors which which do not require a lot of resources, farmers just need to work and do it well,” he said.
He added that agriculture requires a lot of organization and daily and systematic control and above all work forces to carry out the planned programs, with the aim of producing more food for the population and thus avoiding unnecessary imports.

As for the cultivation of tobacco, the political leader referred to the culture of detail in the way to preserve the leaves of that important item and said that “we must plant more, because this is a product that always has reliable market demand.”

Raciel Aguilera Perez, provincial director of the Twisted Tobacco Company, said that they expect to produce this year 127 tons of tobacco, 27 of them for Tourism and in 2020 they will plant 200 hectares with 240 tons of that important line. "Every year we achieve substantial increases."
Machado Ventura also visited the Piggery Unit where he insisted on the need to seek alternatives for animal feed and not to depend on imports, while recalling that the value of the ton of corn is increasingly higher in the world market and thousands are demanded every year.

In his last stop, Machado Ventura toured the rice mill located in the municipality of Mayari, where eight silos were installed to store the cereal with 50 tons of capacity each.
According to data from executives of the Agricultural Company Guatemala on the Rice Program, investments guarantee coverage for the increase of more than one thousand hectares in the area of Cosme-Herrera. The average yield is 4.0 tons per hectare.
Mayari has potential to become the agricultural area par excellence. Those involved in the task must work and do it well.
In his visit Machado Ventura was accompained by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez and Julio Cesar Estupiñan Rodriguez, top political and government authorities in the province, respectively.
