The First National Workshop on Community Social Work, attention to diversity and local development takes place on Friday at the Municipal University Center of Báguanos (CUM), belonging to the University of Holguín.
The event is held from the perspective of local development from the social, environmental, economic and institutional point of view, from the link of the Government with the University, companies and agencies of the territory.
Dr.C. Laura del Carmen Sanz Hidalgo, director of the CUM and president of the organizing committee, said that the event aims to promote the debate among researchers, professors, specialists, students and other participants of the territory, the province and the country, as actors of the transformations taking place at these levels, and disseminate good practices and scientific results, as well as their impact in local contexts.
The eight commissions and symposia of the event welcome more than 140 presentations from various provinces and local municipalities.
Among the topics for debate are those related to community social work from different contexts, attention to diversity and inclusive education, social participation and environmental management, agricultural and food production for sustainable development, exploitation of energy resources; urbanization, production and marketing of materials and housing construction and human capital management for local development, role of institutions in the transformation of the territory.
As a prelude, experts and specialists offered five pre-event courses related to topics such as Ataxia, a neurodegenerative disease with high prevalence in this Holguín region.
The event is sponsored by the programs of Local Agricultural Innovation (PIAL) and the World Food Program (PMA) and the National Associations of Cuban Economists (ANEC), Small Farmers (ANAP), Cubana de Producción Animal (ACPA) and of Cuban pedagogues, as well as CITMA, turning the event into an ideal space to strengthen links and evaluate ways of solving environmental problems based on experiences.
The CUM of Báguanos maintains an extensive work of advising the Government through the design of the municipal local development strategy and the training of its officials. It is also part of the Project Management Group of this territory, with a high incidence in the sugar industry, construction and in the communities, as well as in the Third Improvement of Education.
