"The investments related to food production will not stop. We will overcome this economic situation and we will continue advancing, "said Salvador Valdés Mesa, first Vice President of the Councils of State and of Ministers of Cuba in his tour of agricultural areas of the province of Holguín.
In the agricultural area La Yuraguana, belonging to the Agriculture Comprehensive Company of Holguín, Valdés Mesa checked in situ the work of this unit, where 100 percent of the production of vegetables, viands and grains, is destined to the markets of the head city.
Currently, "La Yuraguana" has 1,664 hectares, of which 703 are cultivated. Since 2011, it has an irrigation system composed of 16 central pivot machines, which favor agricultural land yields with excellent planting potential.
Valdés Mesa also visited the Grain Benefit Plant being built in the area of Velasco, which construction process will be checked each month by the country's administrative management.
He stressed the need, in these times of the reinforcement of the U.S. Blockade, to increase exportable items, decrease imports, recapitalize Industry and Agriculture and pay special attention to Housing and Transportation.
