Holguín: Works Continue at Saratoga Hotel

Photos: Carlos RafelA major construction movement returned to the central corner of Maceo and Martí streets, in the city of Holguín, where it will once again reign, as in its best days, the Saratoga hotel, considered in its moment of splendor, "one of the oldest , of seriousness and absolute morality ".
There, about two years ago, has been rescued from the ruins one of the most representative emblematic buildings of the eclectic style of this city, to turn it into a high-comfort city tourism facility that will be operated by the Hotel Chain E, of the Cubanacán group.
During this period, workers from the Construction Company of Architectural Works (Ecoa-19) completed a very detailed recovery work of this property of the early twentieth century and high patrimonial value, which required structural reinforcement, restoration of the facade and interior patio, arches and columns on the second floor and roof, as well as the waterproofing of the roof, due to its advanced state of deterioration.
The actions undertaken allowed the first of February to begin the execution of this 12-room hotel plant and with completion date for the end of October 2019, confirmed José Walker Olaguiber, investment and development specialist in the delegation of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), in the province of Holguín.
He said that the investment plan includes more than 3 million pesos to execute several construction objects, including the placement of reinforcing steel, concret foundations, walls construction and the installation of sanitary networks, among other building works in charge of the construction entity.
The Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets (FCBC) concluded the restoration of decorative elements, which included the repair of porticos, ladder and renovation of collapsed wooden beam, while working in the reconstruction of arches and metallic beams.
The four stars hotel will have in the first floor a lobby with view to the park, snack bar- breakfast bar, other service areas and interior patio with ambience typical of the time of last century.
The second floor will have 12 rooms, in addition to local for waitresses, as well as seating and relaxation areas.
This work, conceived from a project of the Engineering and Design Services Company of Holguín, VERTICE, is contemplated among those planned to be completed this year as part of the activities for the 300th anniversary of the founding of the town of Holguín, to take place on April 2020.
The project includes a second construction stage to expand the hotel and complete the 53 rooms with several services included, including garden and pool on the roof, from the rescue and adaptation of two colonial premises adjacent to the heritage building on Maceo Street.
