Holguin University Opens Faustino Oramas Chair

The honorary Chair of Cuban music Faustino Oramas, belonging to the University of Holguin (UHo), was officially established on March 27, commemorating the 12th anniversary of the death of the Juglar Mayor, distinguished personality of the northeastern Cuban province.
The only one of its kind in the universities of the Caribbean nation, this chair has as its president of honor the Master Guido Lopez-Gavilan del Rosario, an important figure in the Cuban cultural field.
According to MsC Ramon Collado, executive president, the Chair is made up of around 40 members, including professors, researchers, representatives of cultural and educational institutions, as well as renowned artists of the territory.
The Chair was created with the aim to reborn the work of the distinguished singer-songwriter from Holguin, also known as El Rey del doble sentido, and the main values of Cuban music. It also aims to socialize studies and researches from extension work, sociocultural promotion, as well as academic exchange with universities inside and outside the country, for the knowledge and recognition of the music genres and the main defenders of Cuban musical heritage.
In the opening ceremony, DrC. Iosvany Hernandez, Vice Chancellor of UHo, said that this will be one of the most important cultural events of the Center of High Studies, for the vitality of its functions to sustain and defend the most genuine values of our Cuban cultural identity, as urged by the Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
Assigned to the Faculty of Education Sciences, the new chair joins the more than 40 existing in the University of Holguin.
