University of Holguin Ready to Start 2018-2019 School Year

Preparations for the school year 2018-2019 at the University of Holguin (UHo), which will host more than 14,000 students in different modalities and higher registration in post-graduation degrees, were checked by Martha del Carmen Mesa, vice minister of Higher Education in Cuba.
In exchange with the board of directors of the Center of Higher Studies, one of the largest in the country, the vice minister checked the preparations for the start of the school year on September 3, which is of special importance for the university community in Holguin for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Higher Education in the territory.
In this regard, the UHo has promoted several actions related to the improvement of the Institution's infrastructure and the consolidation of its activities in the integration process.
It stands out the advance in the management of the quality, whose immediate aspiration is to obtain the certification of the one hundred percent of the degrees with requirements in the coming stage and to maintain the results in the remaining ones.
Mesa knew about the composition and state of the teaching staff with about three thousand workers, of them around two thousand are teachers and almost 80 percent hold higher scientific status.
Reynaldo Velazquez Zaldivar, rector of the University, commented on the importance to continue drawing strategies to enhance the performance of teachers in order to guarantee their permanence.
He detailed the existence of teaching materials to start the school year and some particularities in relation to the furniture and laboratories, whose solution allows improving the quality of the teaching and learning processes.
He also explained the strategies designed to ensure the main processes from the optimization of the budget, the energy carriers and the vehicle fleet, with more than 30 years of exploitation.
For this school year, the UHo will provide attention to all the activities that consolidate it as an institution relevant to the territory, especially to scientific improvement, local development projects and the fulfillment of the sustainable development objectives of the 2030 Agenda, among others.
To continue implementing the transformations of Higher Education, the visibility of the Institution through social networks, the work agreements with counterparts from other countries, as well as the extension activity and the participation in tasks of social impact, are other priorities that point to the consolidation of the center as a space for improvement.
The University of Holguin hosts a total of 47 degrees distributed in eight Faculties, 19 Masters Programs, nine Specialties, 10 Doctoral Programs and seven Study Centers.
