The Inejiro Asanuma Spinning Mill (Gihilan), located in Gibara, Holguín, stands out as an example of efficient use of industrial waste. The factory has received recognition for its contribution to the circular economy, thanks to the reuse of waste generated in its production processes.

One of the company’s main achievements is the use of textile waste. Residues collected from spinning lines are mixed with fibers obtained from fabric scraps and transformed into materials used to manufacture floor mops, a product in high demand.

In addition, threads that do not meet quality standards are reused to produce cords, mainly supplied to the meat industry for tying sausages. These can also be used in candle making or in applications within the healthcare sector.

Innovation also plays an important role in the company. These same threads are used to produce ropes on a machine created by factory workers, which are then used to weave hammocks. Likewise, waste fibers collected during machine cleaning are reused in other industries such as mining and sugar production.

Finally, the company recycles plastic waste from its production to manufacture cones and tubes used for winding yarn. With nearly 65 years of history, the spinning mill demonstrates that sustainability, innovation, and efficient resource use can go hand in hand.
