The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is promoting the comprehensive development of vulnerable children in the province of Holguín through projects aimed to guarantee the provision of school supplies and the improvement of infrastructure.
This international organization supports the early childhood education and care system through two main programs, which are carried out in collaboration with the technology company Igalia and the Valencian Regional Government of Spain, explained Yaima, head of the Early Childhood Department at the General Directorate of Education.
UNICEF delivered essential resources to homes for children without family support and to childcare centers. These donations include ventilation equipment, microwaves, refrigerators, bathroom fixtures, water tanks, and specialized furniture, she mentioned.
As part of the strategy aimed at opening childcare centers for children of working mothers, the organization provided educational materials and technical manuals to guide the methodology for creating and standardizing these centers, she noted.
The project has benefited various facilities in the municipalities of Holguín, Moa, Báguano, and areas of the Turquino Plan in Frank País.
Cruz reported that a key component of the cooperation is the early stimulation kits, donated after the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in October 2025. These kits include toys, hygiene items, and educational materials such as crayons, pencils, and colored paper.
With the most extensive school network in Cuba, Holguín has 65 childcare centers and 24 preschools, guaranteeing the care and education of more than eight thousand children, while also facilitating the full integration of women into the workforce. (Source: ACN)
