The Doctor Antonio Núñez Jiménez University of Moa is driving a project aimed at promoting sustainable food production in Holguín, contributing to the province's nutritional sovereignty through the application of science.

Carlos Alberto Leyva Rodríguez, the program coordinator and Doctor of Geological Sciences, highlighted the use of agrominerals as fertilizers in municipalities such as Sagua de Tánamo and the provincial capital.

He said that the project includes physicochemical characterization of soils for their protection, with field work and the application of specific technological packages.

The proposal establishes an expert-approved procedure for the use of agrominerals, with potential to expand to other productive areas in the country.

Additionally, it will generate new research jobs, prioritizing women, and increase yields per hectare for various crops.

Holguín has multiple similar projects involving the ministries of Science, Technology and Environment, Agriculture, and universities. These aim to recover soils, promote natural fertilizers, and achieve local self-sufficiency in each municipality through innovations and development research. (Source: ACN)
