Given the difficult energy situation facing the country due to the US oil blockade, the transportation sector in Holguín has announced several measures regarding transport in its various forms.
According to Juan Carlos Sarmientos Rodríguez, Deputy Director of Transportation for the province, the following actions are proposed:
1- Public passenger transportation on urban, suburban, rural, and interprovincial routes is suspended, with the exception of one route to Havana, the Vía Azul bus service, and transportation for government employees.
2- Domestic transportation related to events or activities is postponed.
3- Transportation for tourism workers is limited in accordance with the measures taken by the Ministry of Tourism. Transportation for airport workers, provided by Transmetro, will continue.
4- Rail transportation is suspended, except for the national train with a frequency of 8 days.
5- The current Waiting List service is suspended. Last-minute terminals will not be operating.
6- School transportation services will be limited in coordination with the Provincial Directorate of Education.
7- Transportation to hemodialysis and medical appointments is suspended in accordance with the Directorate of Health, which will take measures to provide care for these patients.
(Note: Sarmientos mentions suspension, but when explaining this measure, he refers to reorganization.)
8- A survey of all means of transportation, including animal-drawn and electric vehicles, will be conducted in coordination with municipal authorities.
9- Work will continue at bus stops and boarding points.
10- TaxiCuba's electric tricycles will be used to transport specialized health personnel.
11- Tickets requested through the Viajeros company will be fully refunded. Tickets already purchased will be reordered to give priority to rail transport.
