Holguín hotel recognized for outstanding environmental protection efforts

The Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Hotel, located in Guardalavaca, Holguín, received the Territorial Environmental Recognition for its commitment to sustainable development and responsible economic use of the coastline.
The hotel stands out for meeting international standards in hygiene, water quality, and accessibility, as well as implementing strategies to mitigate environmental impacts, such as recycling and reducing single-use plastics
Alejandro Torres Gómez, delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment, highlighted the ecosystem-based approach applied in the region, supported by national policies like the State Plan to Address Climate Change (Tarea Vida), biodiversity protection, and the transition to a circular economy
He also emphasized the importance of education, awareness and disaster risk reduction, as well as collective risk management.
In addition to the hotel, the municipalities of Antilla, Urbano Noris and Sagua de Tánamo, the Lázaro Peña Cigar Factory, the Cubaníquel Business Group and the Costa Verde Beach Hotels in Pesquero were recognized for their environmental protection efforts.
These actions are part of the World Environment Day celebrations, promoted by the UN every June 5th. In Cuba, a group of initiatives are developed every year focused on this purpose, which includes a collaborative work between the sectors of education and science, in order to preserve natural resources.
