UHo awards Doctor Honoris Causa degree to outstanding Holguín scientist

The University of Holguín (UHo) conferred the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to Dr. C. Luis Velázquez Pérez in a ceremony recognizing scientific merit held at the Oscar Lucero Moya headquarters of this house of high studies.
Velázquez Pérez maintains close ties with the University of Holguín in the development and implementation of research aimed at the rehabilitation of patients with Hereditary Ataxias, through collaboration with the Center for Physical Activity and Therapeutic Studies, the CAD-CAM Studies Center, and the Biomedical Data Processing Group. His contributions in this scientific field transcend the borders of our country.
At the ceremony, Aniuska Pérez Ortiz, Rector of UHo, highlighted his outstanding career in teaching, research, and management, as well as his contribution to institutional development and his outstanding work at the head of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, the country's leading scientific institution.
Founder and director of the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias, Velázquez Pérez is the author of more than 200 publications in high-impact specialized journals and has been awarded the Carlos J. Finlay Order, the highest honor awarded by the Council of State.
He also serves as a visiting professor at the University of Holguín, where he actively promotes the training of new researchers, ensuring generational renewal in strategic areas of knowledge.
The ceremony culminated with the presentation of the diploma accrediting him as an Honorary Doctor of Physical Culture Sciences, a distinction that adds to the multiple national and international recognitions he has received during his outstanding professional career.
The highest academic honor was presented in the presence of Joel Queipo Ruiz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, and Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, Governor of the territory.
