The Corúa 5 photovoltaic park, located in the municipality of Mayarí, Holguín, is in the final phase of technical tests before its synchronization with the National Electric Power System (SEN).
Yobany Almira Laurencio, investment director of the project, told to the Cuban News Agency that with a capacity of 21.8 Megawatts (MW), this project has successfully passed initial electrical tests, allowing it to gradually contribute to the national grid until reaching its maximum capacity.
César Luis Sarmiento Ávila, investment director at the Holguín Electric Company, said that despite challenges caused by adverse environmental conditions, such as heavy rains, the project has progressed according to the established schedule.
He noted that completed tasks include the park’s wiring, the installation of power lines to the Santa Rita substation, the creation of road access, water supply, and site preparation.
Sarmiento Ávila added that in addition to Corúa 5, four other photovoltaic plants of similar capacity are being developed, which will add approximately 150 MW to the SEN by the end of 2025.
With 42,500 Chinese-technology panels, The construction of the park, which began on May 14, 2024, is part of a national program to increase the use of renewable energy and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.
