Specialized forces fight forest fires in eastern region

Specialized forces of the forest ranger corps, flora and fauna and the Agroforestry Company are fighting a forest fire in areas of Pinares de Mayari, which started on Sunday in the area of Loma de los Ñames de Guamuta, in the eastern Holguín municipality of Cueto.
According to preliminary reports reported by journalist Emilio Rodriguez Pipo of Radio Mayari, some 80 hectares are quantified as affected in the geographical area, characterized by a wide biodiversity and extensive forests of pinus cubensis.
The report states that control actions are being carried out in three fundamental fronts located in Loma de Guilarte, Los Ñames and Los Exoticos, where the support of political and governmental authorities is also present.
The Provincial Center for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management also informed Granma newspaper that the flames have advanced towards Pinares de Mayari, in a very intricate area, with difficult access and few possibilities of communication.
Some technical means are being used in the confrontation, in a complex panorama that includes areas damaged by the previous fire registered in 2023.
More than 85 % of the forest fires in Cuba are mainly caused by human action, due to the burning of pastures, poaching and the irresponsibility of passers-by, while only 8 % come from natural causes such as electrical discharges.
