In altruistic gesture, Canadian and Cuban friends residing in that country are coordinating actions to achieve greater effectiveness in the process of collecting resources, storing and paying for transportation.
This was known in meeting with the members of the delegation of Icap in Holguín, a representation of Mincex and Public Health and leaders of these projects, who also visited the province of Granma, with the aim of increasing aid to Cuba in the midst of the very difficult situation caused by the intensification of the economic, financial and commercial blockade of the US government.
Granma´s Julio Fonseca, who has lived in Canada for 31 years, is Vice President of the National Network of Solidarity with Cuba in that country and presides over the Juan Gualberto Gómez Association of Cuban Residents in Toronto, described as very usefull this unity of actions as it will allow to increase the number of people who want to join in humanitarian aid to a country as supportive as Cuba.
"From the first container I sent during the dengue pandemic, there are already 12, each measuring 40 feet," says Fonseca, and "although sometimes we think that there are symbolic donations, due to their volume, we receive expressions of gratitude for what they represent in medical services, for example, as directors and professionals from the Pediatric, Lenin and Clinical Surgical hospitals informed us."
Jennifer Raymer, director of the Together for Cuba project, in London, Ontario, has been collaborating with Cuba for 11 years and has created her own storage space for this purpose, for which reason, it can be a key point in this alliance that they organize to increase humanitarian aid which, as she mentioned, can be done more frequently through Canadian tourists who support, bringing suitcases, briefcases and bags.
The prominent unionist Ben Lefebre—resident in the city of Irognois Falls, in Northern Ontario and member of the Calixto García Brigade—, as well as Sandra Shore (who accompanies him), from Winnipeg, capital of the province of Manitoba will also play an important role in this strategic link.
She belongs to the Unifor Union, the largest in the country, with more than 320 thousand members, with predominance of the private sector, which can make important monetary contributions for the transportation of the resources received, including the shipping of containers to the destinations agreed upon with the Icap.
Lefebre has extensive experience in these actions, as she was a founder of the Calixto García Brigade (flagshipped by Icap, in Holguín, on November 29, 2018) and as the protagonist of the Container for Cuba project, for two years.
In this way, the Canadian friends return to their country with greater purposes in the solidarity aid they provide to Cuba, where their altruistic gesture is so appreciated.
