Promoting women's empowerment is one of the work objectives of the Project for the Strengthening of Women's Leadership and Participation in the Renewable Energy Sector in Cuba (Former), which benefits the eastern province of Holguín.

Cristian Cadi, a specialist in this field and collaborator of the group, told the Cuban News Agency that through training actions the social role of women is highlighted, with emphasis on single mothers and vulnerable families.

He stressed that this international collaboration program between the governments of Cuba and Canada, implemented since 2019, includes activities in communities, educational institutions and universities aimed at promoting gender equity in engineering.

Former's work, the Honduran expert added, is not limited to the installation of renewable sources, but is also aimed at the economic and social welfare of the household.

He pointed out that specialized classes have been given in the universities of Moa and Holguin focused on teaching the exploitation of wind, solar, thermal and hydraulic energy, in addition to exchange visits to Canadian universities.

For his part, Luis Esteban Arrieta, project director for the Canadian side, emphasized the need to create new social stereotypes that promote the insertion of women in this sector.

Former beneficia en la isla caribeña a más de 500 familias de áreas rurales y de difícil acceso con la instalación de paneles fotovoltaicos aislados en viviendas y objetivos económicos para mejorar la calidad de vida de la población. (Source: ACN)
