The subsidiary company Copextel Holguín promotes the change in the energy matrix by installing technological equipment that uses renewable sources to replace the use of fossil fuels, initially for the benefit of prioritized sectors.
Juan Carlos Cobas Cobiellas, general manager of the entity in the eastern territory, told ACN that the provision of technical services to achieve that objective is one of the main goals of the corporation throughout the country, which aims to collaborate with the reduction of the load of the National Electroenergy System (SEN) through the generalization of ecological technologies.
In this regard, the group has contributed to the energy transformation of prioritized sectors such as Public Health and Education, this way in 2024 they were in charge of launching several projects for the assembly of solar panels and heaters in medical centers and schools, he noted.
Among the benefited institutions are the Octavio de la Concepción de La Pedraja Pediatric hospital in Holguín, as well as the general hospital Guillermo Luis and the Juan Manuel Páez Polyclinic, both in the municipality of Moa, as part of the International Cooperation Program for Strengthening the Leadership and Participation of Women in the Renewable Energy Sector in Cuba (FORMER).
Likewise, they helped with the placement of photovoltaic and thermal systems in the Holguín Technology Center, the first of its kind in the country, and in isolated homes in the territories of Rafael Freyre and Banes, work that they will continue in the current period as it is one of the government's development priorities, Cobas Cobiellas added.
He explained that they are currently involved in the investment project in Corúa 5 photovoltaic park, located in Mayarí, which will contribute around 20 Megawatts (MW) to the SEN and they will work on the construction of another with a capacity of 50 kilowatts at the University of Moa.
According to the manager, in 2025 they plan to continue their contribution to this national policy with work at the Frank País García International Airport and at the Caletones desalination plant, in the municipality of Gibara.
Cuba promotes the use of sunlight as a substitute for electricity-generating fuels through the development, in a first stage, of parks that will add a thousand MW in a period of two years, a strategy in which Holguín is advancing with five sites projected for the end of December. (Source: ACN)
