The city of Holguín will host the First National Symposium on Rural Nursing on October 17 and 18, with the aim to highlight the work of this staff in hard-to-reach areas of the Turquino Plan in Cuba.

The head of the Nursing section of the General Directorate of Public Health, Elizabeth Chacón, said that the meeting will focus on the exchange of experiences on the modes of action in the clinics of these geographic areas located in mountainous regions of Cuba.

She added that participants will present the results of work in the follow-up of vulnerable populations, vaccination programs, control of pregnancy in adolescence and family planning consultations, among other priority indicators of the health sector.

They will also share life stories of nurses who act as doctors and have a key role within the communities, especially in the face of meteorological phenomena that cause heavy rains and floods.

The event, to be attended by experts from various provinces, aims to contribute to improving the quality of life and health indicators of the population.

The Turquino-Manatí Plan is a comprehensive program created on the initiative of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, aimed at guaranteeing health, education and professional development in intricate areas of the country, where around 12 percent of the population lives, and covers 54 municipalities in 11 provinces, with a greater predominance in the eastern region.
