The current water availability in the province of Holguín, the problems associated with its supply cycles and the actions carried out to improve the situation were topics discussed on Thursday in meeting of the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, Inés María Chapman Waugh, with representatives of the Water Resources system of the territory.
According to recent data, this Wednesday around 146 thousand residents in province were affected by the service, which corresponds to an increase in the time between supply cycles in the municipalities due to complexities and technical situations that affect access to water.
The municipalities of Holguín, Mayarí, Banes, Frank País and Calixto García have an unfavorable situation due to factors such as equipment breakdowns, low levels of the Gibara dam and leaks, among others that have been identified and whose solution is being worked on tirelessly.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister was informed on the work system conceived by authorities in the territory, which includes actions such as the assembly and replacement of parts, the correction of leaks, work with university centers and on-site check-up visits.
Reversing the difficulties with the objective of promoting access to water is a task of the first order for all those involved, so it was urged to define the priorities of each area to strengthen the impact of what is done, taking into account how difficult the daily life of families becomes when they do not have this service.
Holguín is the second province in the country with the highest investment plan for the year destined for hydraulic resources, so it is necessary to offer a different panorama based on the sustainability and the necessary maintenance and the follow-up of the executed plan.
