This September 2, more than 143 thousand students returned to the classrooms in the northeastern province of Holguín, as the new 2024-2025 school year began here in the 1,330 educational institutions of this territory, the one with the largest school network in Cuba.
After the vacation period, students, family members, teachers and the community embraced this day with the enthusiasm for a new school stage, which although in the face of difficulties due to the economic context of the country, promises the development of a responsible educational work, supported by the preparation of teachers, within the framework of the third educational improvement.
The Raúl Cepero Bonilla primary school, in the municipality of Holguín, hosted the central event of the province for the beginning of the school year, dedicated to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the main architect of the Cuban educational revolution.
Luis Felipe Batista Rodríguez, general director of Education, highlighted the quality indicators of educational activity in the province, the overcompliance in the pedagogical career plan and the efficiency in the categorization of 799 teachers, education experts, as well as in satisfying the demands of pending applications for day care centers and semi-boarding schools.
He added that the province has 35 percent of its teachers with higher scientific categories, a strength for this school year, as it shows that the reserve lies in the knowledge of the teachers.
Among the challenges, he pointed out the fight against cultural colonization, the application of science and innovation, consolidation of the main efficiency indicators, improvement of results in Higher Education entrance tests, attention to 57 prioritized neighborhoods where there are students in vulnerable situations and the sustained materialization of strategies and projects to make the school an attractive center for its students.
