Representatives of the Venceremos Brigade of solidarity with Cuba, coming from US, arrived in the island through the Frank Pais Garcia International Airport of Holguín, with the purpose of developing a fruitful program of activities in the Greater Antilles.
Composed by more than 100 members coming from around 20 states of the U.S. and Puerto Rico, the group has among its interests to exchange and culturally know the Cuban people, as well as to manifest its rejection to the meddling policies that the U.S. government maintains against the island.
For two weeks, the program includes volunteer works in agriculture and in the repair of educational, cultural, health or social value centers.
“Cuba has always been an inspiration and an example of hope. I was a teacher for 25 years and I have always loved the Cuban social system. The literacy campaign, for example, was inspiring for the world,” said Vicki Legion, a member of the brigade.
Founded in 1969 to show the reality of Cuban society and strengthen the ties of cooperation and friendship between the US and Cuba, the Venceremos was the first brigade of its type created in the world to support the Cuban Revolution.
On this occasion, the brigadistas are also motivated by the demand for the exclusion of Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, the demand to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade suffered by this country, and the request to return the territory illegally occupied by the Guantanamo Naval Base.
