On the occassion of the World Oceans Day on June 8, the Colombia-based Center for Training in Environmental Management and Certification of Beaches (Cifplayas) published its International Ranking 2024, which includes six be Holguin beaches, out of a total of 123 representing 13 countries.
A note issued by the Center for Environmental Research and Services (CISAT), attached to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, specifies that Holguin obtained its best scores with rural beaches, although urban and town beaches are also included, valuing their recreational options, coastal protection, ecosystem conservation and sanitary quality
MSc. Elier Alexander Córdova García, assistant researcher at CISAT, said that Playa Guardalavaca and Playa El Faro, in Banes and Gibara, respectively, which are considered urban, are distinguished by the prestigious list.
“Guardalavaca is our best-known and largest beach resort, with three defined sectors; however, we chose the Atlantic sector because that is where the commercial area is located (boulevard, services, access) and the beachfronts of the Club Amigo Atlántico and Gran Muthu Almirante Beach hotels, the latter, the highest category in the area,” he added.
Playa Blanca and Playa Caletones are classified as town beaches, while rural beaches include El Peñón and El Cristo, in Cayo Saetía, both in Cayo Saetía, Mayarí, which have an unparalleled beauty.
“A rural beach has among its attractions a higher degree of conservation, which responds to its location and difficult access. Such is the case of Playa El Peñón, which can only be reached by rope or by boat,” said the specialist.
According to Córdova García, unlike other rankings based on subjective criteria of influencers and travelers, “the Cifplayas ranking uses rigorous scientific methods to achieve an objective result, which in turn is a valuable tool for tourists, government officials, environmental managers, hoteliers and others interested in the management and enjoyment of beaches.
The evaluation was carried out by 46 academics (two of them from í), managers and specialists from different disciplines, all of them qualified by the Cifplayas. (Source: Radio Angulo)
