Sustainable School Feeding project (AES+), promoted by the World Food Program (WFP), guarantees adequate supplies to the students of the Leonte Guerra center, in the Holguín municipality of Mayarí, through links with productive forms.
AES+, which uses funds from the Russian Federation, is implemented in the five eastern provinces, and has among its objectives to improve the nutrition of vulnerable population groups through the development of agriculture resilient to climate change, said Zoe Díaz, an official from the PMA.
To achieve this, with the donation of resources and work tools to the participants, they established alliances between agricultural forms and social protection networks and thus avoid intermediaries who raise the cost of food, she pointed out.
According to Olga Lidia Proenza Gómez, director of the educational institution, there are three schools participating in the project along with the Credit and Service Cooperative (CCS) Niceto Pérez, which have benefited more than 360 school children enrolled.
Based on a survey of the students' tastes and preferences and their nutritional needs, analyzed with the support of the Health sector, on a weekly basis they receive the required products such as root vegetables, vegetables and grains at an affordable price, she added.
Yurisan Molina Suárez, mother of two students in the group, thanked the program and everyone involved in it for the work done, since as a parent she is happy with the attention and care provided to her children. (Source: ACN)
