Holguín started on Monday, June 17, the second stage of the 63rd National Bivalent Oral Polio Vaccination Campaign, in which infants from nine years of age up to nine years, 11 months, and 29 days will be reactivated with one dose of the medicine, an action that will be carried out simultaneously throughout the national territory.
In this way, the family doctors and nurses and other personnel, scheduled to carry out this activity throughout the Holguín territory, will try to reach the more than 36 thousand children scheduled to receive the bivalent oral antipolio vaccine.
As in previous campaigns, a recovery week will be scheduled, between June 24 and 28, for children who cannot receive the immunogen in this period, for different reasons, such as a fever of 38 degrees or more; vomiting, diarrhea or other situations faced during that period.
Dr. Norge Fernández Aguilera, specialist at the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology of Holguín, insisted on the importance of parents going with their children to their medical offices or points set up for the campaign, with the aim of protecting the children and thus maintain Cuba as a polio-free territory.
Since 1962, Cuba has undertaken the National Anti-Polio Vaccination Campaign, which has allowed the country to be freed from this infectious-contagious disease, which affects the central nervous system (CNS).
