The International Workers' Day parade in Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García Íñiguez of Holguín was massive and historic, in which more than 200,000 workers participated as a sign of the proletariat's support for the Revolution.
Salvador Valdés Mesa, vice president of the Republic of Cuba; Inés María Chapman Waugh, deputy prime minister of the Republic; Division General Eugenio Rabilero Aguilera, head of the Eastern Army, Joel Queipo Ruiz, first secretary of the Provincial Party Committee in Holguín and Manuel Francisco Hernández Aguilera, governor of the Province, marched along with the people of Holguín.
In the central words of the event, the member of the Provincial Committee of the PCC and general secretary of the CTC, Idalmis Serrano Gómez, pointed out: "Holguín workers assume this decisive and historic moment aware that the contribution of the workers is decisive to advance in strategic development programs; we have planned to meet and satisfy the needs of the people to improve working and salary conditions, and demand the elimination of the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba".
“The scenarios prior to this march became a platform for the denunciation of the genocide of the people of Palestine by the Zionist government of Israel in complicity with the United States”, Serrano Gómez said in her speech.
This May Day we had an overwhelming response by the people, of unity to the Revolution, to the Party and of tribute to all the historical generations of the Revolution and especially to Fidel and Raúl. It has been a massive parade with joy, color and a lot of combativeness. Congratulations to the people of Holguín”, expressed Salvador Valdés Mesa, also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba.
