The Cuban Workers' Union (CTC) in Holguín called on its members to participate in the transformations of prioritized neighborhoods, as part of the activities to celebrate the International Workers' Day, on May 1st.

Idalmis Serrano Gómez, general secretary of the organization's Provincial Committee, told ACN that the unions will collaborate in communities included in the comprehensive neighborhood renovation program, which aims to improve urban planning and boost the economy based on the potentialities of each community.

Different groups will get involved in the social life of the localities and contribute to their well-being through sanitation days, repair and maintenance of centers, collection of raw materials and contributions to their self-sufficiency, said the union leader.

According to Serrano, they also have planned meetings to promote the unity and empowerment of the union, among which are volunteer work on weekends in support of the sugar harvest and food production in urban gardens and agricultural areas like Beola and La Yuraguana.

Likewise, in each municipality of the northeastern territory, events will be held to present recognitions, including an Honorary Title of Labor Hero, the status of National Vanguard for 26 outstanding groups during the year, the Lázaro Peña Order in its three degrees and the Jesús Menéndez Medal to union leaders, she announced.

Other activities scheduled are the ExpoAnir Soluciones Cuba event, which will allow the socialization of innovative experiences among workers, in addition to blood donation days, sports events, festivals and contests for children and young people.

The motto "For Cuba together we create" presides this year over the May Day celebration, which coincides with the organic process of the 22nd Congress of the CTC and with the 85 years since the organization was created, which is why the country calls for the massive concentration of its labor movement on a day that remembers the struggles for their rights.
