The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) in the province of Holguín, implements a program for the accreditation of high-tech companies, within the priorities aimed at promoting economic development in the country.
Yordanka Maite Hernández, subdelegate of the sector, told ACN that in the eastern territory there are several entities with the potential to obtain this category, among them the Captain Alberto Fernández Montes de Oca Nickel Development and Research Center (Cediniq).
To achieve this objective, a strategy has been drawn up for the period 2025-2030 that includes doctoral training, the evaluation of the prospects that generate exports and applying the results of research at the local level, she said.
Likewise, training actions and exploration of the quality of exportable items that contribute to economic and social growth are carried out, as part of the policies prioritized by Citma, Hernández highlighted.
She said that although the province currently does not have any entity with requirements to achieve that category, support is provided to scientific and academic institutions as a way to achieve the established parameters.
The province also has the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias and the Lázaro Peña Cigar Factory, with scientific contributions to aspire to that category in the coming years.
High-tech companies are organizations characterized by showing intensive activity in innovation, as well as high technological standards, according to Decree 2/2020, of the Council of Ministers.
In addition, they close the cycle of research, development, innovation, production, marketing of goods and services with high added value, with emphasis on the foreign market; and they constitute a way of connecting knowledge with production, both through own results and knowledge from external sources.
