The Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (Etecsa) in Holguín held on Tuesday the annual balance meeting to evaluate the behavior of indicators during 2023 and establish projections for 2024.
Last year 2023 was marked by economic limitations such as the scarcity of resources, which in some areas made the development of the planned maintenance difficult; However, in these scenarios, workers opted for innovation to materialize alternatives and offer solutions.
Regarding the investment process, in 2023, about 20 telephone services were installed in settlements with less than 150 inhabitants, 912 data ports to contribute to the Nauta Hogar plan and more than 1,500 voice lines.
Luis Arnolis Reyes Ramírez, territorial director of the company, said that the planned infrastructure supports were also installed, including radio link transmission systems and energy systems and technological climates, with the purpose of contributing to the modernization of the different networks.
More than 66 percent of the amount of the province’s telephone bill was paid by electronic payment gateways. In that sense, one of Etecsa's main achievements has been supporting the banking process of society, with the development of multiple operations linked to electronic commerce.
Reyes Ramírez pointed out that in 2024 the aim is to establish a strategic program, aligned with quality, the environment, as well as health at work, to meet the goals proposed in the present stage, which will also be marked by limitations in the economic area.
In terms of investments, the Director added that there are 25 radio bases awaiting the arrival of the technological equipment for their installation; In addition, it is planned to continue with the establishment of fiber optics, which has a great impact on local operations in municipalities such as Gibara and Urbano Noris.
He stressed that the company plans to improve bandwidth, in order to make connectivity more efficient and contribute to the improvement of telecommunications services in this northeastern province.
