The high tourism season in Holguín destination is showing good results, with notable increases in air operations and the entry of visitors, compared to a similar stage last year.

At the end of November, there were a total of 187 air operations, of which 77 were tourist operations, mainly from Canada, the main tourist issuer.

Carlos Álvarez Infante, specialist at the Delegation of the Ministry of Tourism in Holguín, said that the airlines Condor, from Germany, and Neos, from Italy, also had important entry into this destination.

These air operations led to the entry of around 21,541 passengers through the Holguín air terminal, of which around 12,000 traveled with a tourist package to spend the night in the more than 9,000 rooms of this destination.

Álvarez said that since December all tourist facilities have been operating, starting with the reopening of the Yuraguanal hotel.

This hotel plant now named Sol Turquesa Beach, located on Yuraguanal beach, reopened its doors on the 18th of this month under administration with the Meliá Hoteles International chain, bringing the total to three facilities in the province that operate with this Spanish group: Sol Río de Luna y Mares and Paradisus Río de Oro Resort & Spa, which have won several international awards.

Regarding the prospects for this tourist destination in eastern Cuba, the specialist pointed out that is expected to continue growing the number of flights from Canada, since last December 15, flights have arrived in Holguín not only from Toronto and Montreal, but now also other cities, including Quebec and Calgary.

He stated that Holguín continues to contribute 10 and 12 percent of passengers to the country's strategy of reaching 5 million visitors, for which several actions are carried out, among them, those aimed at growing lodging capacities and infrastructure works, aimed at increasing recreational and insurance activities.

He announced that in 2024 two other facilities are planned to be inaugurated, one in Yuraguanal beach, with around 600 rooms, and in El Ramón de Antilla, where there are plans to build more than 19 thousand rooms in the long term, which would reaffirm this destination as one of the most important in the country.
