WFP boosts nutritional security for vulnerable groups in Holguín

The World Food Program (WFP), belonging to the United Nations Organization, collaborates in Holguín with healthy and varied diet for vulnerable population groups, through the donation of edible modules.
Orlando Chaveco Pérez, WFP supervisor in the province, told the Cuban News Agency that they are currently delivering a donation that includes two kilograms of rice, one kilogram of grains and one liter of oil to people in situations of economic vulnerability, as well as pregnant women.
According to Chaveco, these products are distributed free of charge with the aim to improve the diet of around 43 thousand people from all the municipalities of Holguín.
He pointed out that together with the ministries of Domestic Trade, Labor and Social Security and the Provincial Wholesale Food Company, it was agreed to make three deliveries of these supplies on a bimonthly basis which will extend until February.
Infants are one of the population groups prioritized by the program for the distribution of the so-called Nutritional Sparks, powdered micronutrients for children between six months and two years of age, a figure that exceeds 12 thousand throughout the entire territory, he added.
For six decades, the WFP has supported the Cuban people and government in actions that promote food and nutritional security; In Holguín, this program has benefited institutions including canteens of the Family Assistance System, semi-boarding schools ,children's daycare centers and nursing homes.
