The progress of the recovery of the productive areas of the municipality of Mayarí and their preparation to continue the sowing of the cold campaign were checked by the highest authorities of the Party and Government of the province of Holguín, on a recent tour of this territory in eastern Holguín.
Accompanied by the municipal authorities, the tour began on the farm of producer Rudy López Batista, who commented on his experiences in growing beans, producing vegetables and the prospects for his foray into rice production, as well as attention to the workforce.
The visitor arrived to Levisa urban vegetable garden, which has more than 220 chambers, which were only 50 percent exploited due to lack of workforce. Since December 1, the Commercial Company Pinares SA, an entity sponsored by the Cubaníquel Business Group, took on the task of tending to the facility, which has irrigation systems.
Yaidisury Salazar Infante, director of “Pinares SA”, explained that in order to achieve food sovereignty they assumed this urban garden to produce food for their workers' cafeteria and the town, since a part of the productions will be sold to the population.”
The progress in the preparation of the self-consumption areas of the ESI DIP Transfer with 5.5 hectares and the Felton Thermoelectric Plant, (12 hectares), the latter benefiting from irrigation machine number ten, were also evaluated on this day, in which the conditions, perspectives and productions were discussed.
Alexis Leyva Hernández, brigade chief of the area corresponding to “La Felton”, said that they have 16 workers, eight of them directly working in the field, who receive a salary of around 6 thousand pesos.
The delegation arrived at the farm of the usufructuary Roberto Marcheco, located in the Juan Pastor productive center, in the Manglito area, Guanina popular council, favored with irrigation machine number seven, to boost food production.
In dialogue with the workers, they learned about the workforce, salaries and forms of payment, production and exploitation of the land, which will be planted with tomato.
In each of the areas visited, Santiesteban Velázquez insisted on taking advantage of the prepared land and starting planting, since it is necessary to make up for the time lost in the current campaign, affected by the recent intense rains.
In meeting with representatives of the productive forms, Agriculture, Anap and other entities, the contracting situation was analyzed, which must be intended with much more control to be able to guarantee compliance with deliveries, while addressing the behavior of the theft and sacrifice of large livestock, a scourge that can be eradicated with the help of everyone, not just the Minint.
