Canadian Solidarity Brigade awarded with the Shield of Holguín

The Canadian Solidarity Brigade “Calixto García” received the Shield of Holguín, awarded by the local government in recognition of its years of unwavering support for the Cuban people and their revolutionary process.
In ceremony held on Sunday in the Revolution Hall of La Periquera Provincial Museum of this city, it was welcomed the fifth contingent that arrives every November with the aim to provide support and delve into the national history and culture, dedicated in this edition to seventh anniversary of the physical disappearance of Fidel Castro Ruz.
In her welcoming speech, Yunia Pérez Hernández, vice-governor of the province, thanked the support provided by the brigade in this five-year period and the encouraging attitude in showing the world the ties of solidarity that unite them with the Caribbean island, especially with Holguín, which receives them with joy and gratitude.
The ceremony included the opening of the photo exhibition “Expresiones de un gigante” (Expressions of a Giant), by the member of the brigade Albino Moldes, which brings together several images that immortalize the Commander in Chief on the different occasions in which the photographer traveled to the country.
As part of the extensive program designed for this two-week visit, the brigade will tour educational centers, including the University of Medical Sciences, the María Antonia Bolmey semi-boarding school, as well as meetings with the people in communities such as the Pedro Díaz Coello community.
The will also meet with vulnerable population groups at the Modesto Fornaris Psychopedagogical Center, which functions as a home, school and rehabilitation institution for people of all ages with physical and motor disabilities, where they will deliver donations, including school and medical supplies.
The Calixto García Brigade, founded on November 29, 2018, is a project of the provincial delegation of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the People that includes members of the Solidarity Movement and unionists, who travel from Canada to demonstrate their support for the people of Cuba.
