A delegation of Holguín doctors traveled to Kenya, as part of the first brigade of Cuban health professionals that will provide assistance in that East African country.
The Cuban brigade, composed of 101 doctors, includes 12 Holguín specialists in general comprehensive medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, urology, maxillofacial, neurosurgery, intensive therapy and gastroenterology, said Ramona Estupiñán, an official of the Department of Medical Collaboration of the Provincial Health Directorate.
The aid workers, who arrived at the beginning of this month to that nation of more than 48 million inhabitants, will be located in different assistance centers of that extensive African territory, with which Cuba maintains diplomatic relations since October 19, 1995.
According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Minrex), the collaborators were received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by the Cuban ambassador to Kenya, Ernesto Gómez Díaz; the First Deputy Minister of Health, Rashid Aman and the Governor of Kisumu, Anyang Nyong'o, among other officials.
The province of Holguín has more than 3,350 health workers in international medical mission in 48 countries, mainly in Venezuela, Brazil, Algeria and Angola.
