The province of Holguín reports damage in several municipalities, after the intense rains of the last few hours in the eastern territory, the third most densely populated in Cuba.
The main damage is concentrated in the towns of La Agraria, in Cacocum; Guaro, in Mayari; Velasco, in Gibara; low areas of Rafael Freyre and Harlem and 26 de Julio districts in the head city, with more than 2,800 homes affected.
Acording to Jorge Luis Bosch Ortiz, deputy delegate of hydraulic resources, ten of the 21 reservoirs in the territory are pouring, while constant monitoring of rainfall and risk areas downstream of the dams is maintained.
He added that the largest volumes are reported in the Güirabo, Colorado and Gibara reservoirs, while the total capacity was increased by more than 10 thousand cubic hectometers.
Bosch noted that the stations network recorded values greater than 200 millimeters (mm) in Mayarí and the Nipe Dam for a provincial average of 69.9 mm in the last 24 hours.
In parallel, the Civil Defense bodies act to safeguard material assets and state institutions, together with the Fire Department and the Ministry of the Interior, among other organizations.
The current meteorological conditions are due to a low pressure system, which generates instability from the Caribbean Sea, with a considerable increase in precipitation in eastern Cuba, which is why the population is recommended to take protection measures against landslides in the mountains and swollen rivers and streams.
