Eastern province celebrates International Tourism Day

World Tourism Day 2023 is celebrated in Holguín as part of the activities for the Havanatur SA Group's MegaFam event and a significant post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery of more than 83 percent compared to 2019, to position itself as the second destination in results, only preceded by the province of Villa Clara.
This northeastern territory is in a position to achieve a higher peak winter season in relation to previous stages, when more than 10 thousand tourists enjoyed the destination and achieved notable satisfaction rates for services provided.
In statements to the national and foreign press, Francisco Suárez Fernández, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in the province, said that Holguín with a hotel plant of 7,910 rooms, more than 90 percent of four and five stars, maintains a plan to renovate facilities and build new ones.
In this sense, he added that the entire network of lodging units will be ready to operate with optimal conditions, and announced the opening of two facilities by the end of the year, located in Yuraguanal beach and the peninsula of Ramón de Antilla.
The Mintur representative in the territory assured that the destination has a potential of about 64 thousand rooms, while promoting the progress of the general infrastructure of the tourist areas, with the repair and maintenance of the main access roads, including Gibara.
“In the 2030 development plan, all actions are approved, although with a delay due to the economic conditions that the country is going through, but connectivity is maintained. Today there is a Wi-Fi connection in all the facilities and there are only very few areas of silence, at certain points on the road, which is why work continues,” he said.
Regarding the logistics chains in Tourism, he highlighted that they enhance the internal market, through the direct purchase of agricultural and marine products from individual producers, cooperatives and fishermen. "85 percent of what is used in the hotel and non-hotel network are fresh products, that is, about 5 thousand tons of food."
On the Havanatur SA MegaFam taking place in Brisas Guardalavaca hotel, he said that in addition to the opportunity to offer some 400 travel agents to know this destination first-hand, it will make it possible to offer a greater and diverse information about the benefits of the polo, which is not only about sun and beach, but very complete by combining nature, circuits, events and culture, among others.
Finally, he explained that today Holguín has a direct air connection from its Frank País international airport with Mexico, Italy, Germany and the United States, with the possibility of increasing operations with other countries.
