Holguin Implements Measures to Face Possible Heavy Rains

The Hydraulic Resources Company in the province of Holguín implements a monitoring system in its reservoirs, as part of the measures carried out here in the face of possible heavy rains.
The new measures aim to obtain up-to-date information in order to prevent the risks for human lives due to flooding of dams and large river floods, said to the local media Eudelio Ricardo Mondeja, delegate of the Hydraulic Resources Institute in the province.
The monitoring, he explained, is carried out every eight hours with highly qualified personnel and means to know exactly the volumes of water stored, so that the indispensable actions are undertaken to avoid the loss of human lives and protect both resources and assets in areas of impact.
Mondeja stressed that the weather conditions on these days in the western and central region of the country, are an alert on what should be done in terms of protection of reservoirs in each territory.
The monitoring system also extends in relation to the possible overflow of dams from other provinces bordering Holguín, such as Santiago de Cuba and Granma that receive Cauto River water, mainly.
These days, there are seven dams alleviating of the 21 reservoirs existing in Holguín, while several others are more than 90 percent of their capabilities.
