Holguín: Yaguabo progresses in recovery works

As part of the activities of the Territorial Defense Day held this Saturday in the northeastern province of Holguín, the Provincial Defense Council, headed by its president Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, visited the community of Yaguabo, in the municipality of Cacocum, one of the most affected localities after the heavy rains in recent days.
The delegation exchanged with Nuris Daylín González Pereda and Mariela Cruz, president and vice president of the Municipal Defense Council, respectively, who reported on the progress of the work recovery in the area.
Both officials referred the actions undertaken during the exceptional situation to give vitality to the community in view of the measures to cut off electricity while the water level remained high in the interior of the houses, whose effects are evident in floors and walls of more than a hundred of them.
They also referred to the actions carried out in health matters together with the doctor and the nurse from the family doctor's office, the food production and the repair and unblocking of roads, among other issues related to the assitance of people in vulnerability conditions.
Santiesteban Velázquez pointed out the discipline of the people of Yaguabo who from the first moment acted in accordance with the provisions of the Civil Defense to prevent human and material damage.
Where 15 days ago there was a community under water, today there is a movement led by various entities including Construction and Hydraulic Resources, among others, which supported by the residents of the community, return a better image to the place with more comfortable homes, since work is being done to eradicate dirt floors and improve damaged walls.
The urbanization of the main roads and the progress of the cleaning and reconstruction of the wall of the canal, which caused the flooding when it became blocked, are among the tasks in full execution.
The start-up of the water pumping system with solar panels as a result of the change of the energy matrix carried out in the province, was also the objective of the visit of the CDP, which called on the need to involve the community in its care with the sense of belonging generated by a project like this, which will favor more than 400 inhabitants with a more stable service.
The concept of recovery oriented by the Cuban Government on the active participation of the inhabitants and the use of the scenario to return to the town a better neighborhood with a better quality of life prevails in the community.
