Holguín recovers after heavy rains

The province of Holguín is working on the recovery after the recent heavy rains, which exceeded 100 millimeters in 24 hours.
Recovery works are carried out mainly in the municipality of Cacocum, among those most affected by the weather event, where communities such as Altagracia and Yaguabo suffered flooding as a result of water runoff and poor drainage from canals.
According to a note issued by the Civil Defense in the territory, the efforts are mainly concentrated in the cleaning of access roads and areas near rivers and streams with the help of motorized pumps and other specialized equipment, the supply of processed food, drinking water and hypochlorite, in addition to repairs for the gradual restoration of electricity.
Services such as medical assistance, the transfer of agricultural products and the insurance required for the sale of the basic basket and bread are prioritized, according to the note.
At the same time, the situation of the reservoirs and the more than 39,000 inhabitants who live downstream of the dams, which are at more than 85 percent of their storage capacity, are monitored, the note reads.
Regarding the damage to homes and institutions, the municipalities of Gibara, Calixto García, Urbano Noris, Cacocum and the head city are the most affected.
On the other hand, the restoration of basic services is prioritized, including the water supply and the recovery of pumps and infrastructure damaged by the heavy rains.
In addition, epidemiological surveillance of arboviral diseases and acute diarrheal diseases is guaranteed based on the intervention of the health teams of each affected territory. (Source: ACN)
